Michael Pesta of Phoenixville Michael Pesta, 93, husband of the late Veronica C. (Panoc) Pesta, of Phoenixville, died on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at home. Born in Phoenixville, he was the son of the late George and Anna (Kovatch) Pesta. Michael was a graduate of Phoenixville High School, class of 1936. In July of 1941 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he served in the Mighty 8th Air Force. As a Ball Turret Gunner, he flew 25 missions on B-17 and B-24's. In August 1944 he was shot down, captured, and was held as a Prisoner of War in Germany for one year. He was awarded the Purple Heart and POW Medal. He worked at the former Phoenix Steel Corp. He was a sports reporter for the Daily Republican in Phoenixville. He then worked for the Norristown Times Herald for 36 years as a court reporter, and was author of the column, "Courthouse Hill". After retirement, he became executive director of PAEDCO. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Phoenixville. He was a member of Catholic War Veterans, Brandywine Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Caterpillar Club, Veterans of Foreign War Post #1564, Phoenixville Oldtimers Association, Phoenixville Historical Society and the Disabled American Veterans. Surviving are three daughters, Melanie Anne Pesta of Phoenixville, Emilie Anne Pesta of Phoenixville and Christine Anne Pesta of Phoenixville; a son, Mark Michael Pesta and wife Karen of Oxford; and grandchildren, Kimberly Anne Pesta wife of Nick Caton of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y., Michael George Pesta of Los Angeles, Calif. and Julie Anne Pesta of Oxford. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maurin C. Pesta, and his brothers, Raymond Pesta and George Pesta. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, February 14, from the Devlin Rosmos Kepp & Gatcha Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Main Street at Fourth Avenue, Phoenixville, PA 19460. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 148 Church Street, Phoenixville, with Monsignor John M. Galyo officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Phoenixville. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, at funeral home.
