Moine Rowland of West Chester Moine Rowland, 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2012. He was born June 26, 1916 to Stacy and Lester Rowland in Nappanee, Indiana. After attending a one-room schoolhouse and graduating from Nappanee High School in 1934, he went on to attend Purdue University, graduating in 1939 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduation, he was employed in the pioneering days of the aviation industry designing carburetors for airplane engines - first at the Bendix Aviation Corporation in South Bend, and during World War II at the Studebaker Corporation. He later enjoyed success in product sales for Standard Oil Corporation and then at the Ransburg Corporation. Moine married Anna Szabo of South Bend, Indiana in 1942, daughter Mardell Monaghan was born in 1943, and the family moved from South Bend to West Chester, Pa. in 1953. Moine was preceded in death by his wife in 1984, his daughter in 2005, and his brother Argyl Rowland of Nappanee, Indiana in 2007. He is survived by his four granddaughters, Kelly (Mark) Nagle, Tracy (Adam) Darcy, Janel (Paul) Mullen and Kerry (Jon) Mueller; and eight great-grandchildren, Travis Dalton, Grey Nagle, Addison Darcy, Courtney, Erin and Caroline Mullen, and Luke and Daniel Mueller. Moine was a remarkable man who lived an extraordinary life. He loved to hunt, fish and travel; he enriched the lives of his great-grandchildren with the stories of his life; and he was a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
