Nancy Hoot of Exton Nancy Ellen Richardson Hoot, 78, teacher, nurse, mother of three, died peacefully at her Exton home, Aug. 19, 2013, of COPD and congestive heart failure. Born in Philadelphia, Jan. 16, 1935, she was raised in Lansdowne, graduating from Lansdowne High School in 1952 and West Chester State Teachers College in 1956. Before leaving to raise her family she worked as a teacher. For many years she worked at Camilla Hall in Malvern. After graduating from Sacred Heart Hospital School of Nursing, she was a nurse until her retirement. She was a 48 year Exton resident and member of Grove Methodist Church. Nancy enjoyed reading, travel, family, a glass of wine and a good joke. A woman of independence and integrity, she kept her affairs in order to the end. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and friend. She is survived by children, Cynthia Eagan of Exton, David and wife Lois Hoot of Malvern, and Matthew and wife Chew Chee Hoot of Ambler; six granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. She also leaves three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, cousins, dear friends and neighbors who will deeply feel her loss. For 38 years until his death in 1994, Nancy Hoot was the wife of Rowland Hoot, guidance counselor with the West Chester Area School District. She was the daughter of David and Vida Richardson, of Landsdowne. A brother, David Grant Richardson, was killed in action in the Korean War. Another brother, Donald, died in infancy. Mrs. Hoot donated her remains to Humanity Gift Registry. The family asks that gifts in her memory be made to SmileTrain.org. A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Sept. 7th, at Grove United Methodist Church, 490 W. Boot Road, West Chester.
