Pauline "Peg" Shivery Obituary
Pauline 'Peg' Shivery of Oxford Pauline "Peg" Shivery, 99, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late John Richard Shivery. Born May 24, 1912 in Buyerstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ross Thomas and Cora Emma McGinnis Rice. Peg supported herself while attending secretarial school as a nanny and cook. She enjoyed working and had a variety of jobs. As a devoted employee, Peg worked as a lunch counter manager at Gillespie's Drugstore, a grocery store clerk, Western Union operator, seamstress, cake decorator, and held several positions at the Bainbridge Naval Training Base. After retiring from Bainbridge, she was an Avon representative for more than three decades. Peg was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church since 1937 where she enjoyed serving her community. There Peg helped support the Christmas bazaars by making many stuffed animals, most notably, Winnie-the-Pooh characters and jointed teddy bears which she dressed in a variety of clothes. She was the Sunday school teacher of the youth and also taught Adult Women's Class (Winners) group. She was an active member in many senior citizens activities. Peg was also a member and Past Matron of the Octoraro Chapter #463 Order of Eastern Star, the Gray-Nichols Post #1779 VFW Auxiliary, and the Green Thumb Garden Club, all of Oxford. Peg was a past member of the Oxford Research Club, and Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy E. Cooper and Sandra K. Souder, both of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Frances K. White, and Erma Mock, and brother, Robert Rice. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the Oxford United Methodist Church, 18 Addison St., Oxford, where relatives and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Oxford United Methodist Church, 18 Addison St., Oxford, PA 19363. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Edward L.
