Quayle H. Barlow Obituary
Quayle H. Barlow of Downingtown Quayle H. Barlow, 94, of Downingtown, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Coatesville VA Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Josephine K. Oliver Barlow, with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. Born in Ashe County, N.C., he was the son of the late Joseph W. and Lola Payne Barlow. He was a 1939 graduate of Riverview High School in Ashe County, N.C. Mr. Barlow entered the military in 1942, proudly serving his country with the U. S. Army. He fought with the 38th Infantry Division in the liberation of the Philippines and was a Purple Heart recipient as well as other medals. He was employed by Lukens Steel for 24 years and worked as supervisor of fuels and refractory, retiring in 1975. He then worked for the Downingtown Area School District. Mr. Barlow was a 55 year member of Downingtown United Methodist Church. He was a 64 year member of Independence Masonic Lodge #129 in Independence, Virginia; and was a member of the Coatesville Royal Arch, Chapter #267, Centennial Commandery #55 and the VFW. He was an avid gardener and loved to travel, especially to the mountains of North Carolina, Canada, and Hawaii. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, William Barlow (Linda) of West Grove, Philip Barlow (Lynn) of White, Ga., and Nancy Swisher of Kinzers. He is also survived by grandchildren, Chrystal Fost (Mike), Casey Reiss (Jeff), Brandi Hilovsky (Jaron), Brian Barlow (Angie), Bradley Barlow (Brooke), Stephen Barlow (Whitney), Jennifer Myer (Dwayne) and Rebecca Escalona (Filiberto); 23 great-grandchildren, two nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his brother, James and his sister, Margaret Roland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28th, at Downingtown United Methodist Church, 751 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335, where friends may call prior to the service from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. A visitation will also be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown. Interment will be in Hopewell United Methodist Cemetery, Downingtown.
