Stephen Douglas Purnell of Alpharetta, Ga. Stephen Douglas Purnell of Alpharetta, Ga, son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Brown Purnell of West Chester, Pa, passed away on October 20, 2011 at the age of 64. Upon graduation from Henderson High School, he joined the U.S. Army and served in the 101st Airborne Division during the
. He was a
recipient. After leaving the army, he worked as a lab technician for Vishay in Malvern. Prior to retirement in Georgia in 1998, he spent most of his career as an optician in the Philadelphia and suburban areas as well as Washington, D.C. He enjoyed travel, scuba diving, photography and computers. He is survived by his wife, Marie of Alpharetta; brother, Ernest of Atglen, Pa.; uncle, Wendell Purnell and wife, Rose of Detroit, Mich; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A private memorial will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
