Thomas J. Nolen Obituary
Thomas J. Nolen, 81, formerly of West Chester, died at his residence in Oakdale, Calif. on November 15th, 2011. His cause of death was myocardial infarction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Freiler of Lansdale, Pa. Thomas was born in Hatfield, the son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Donahue) Nolen. He graduated from Lansdale High School in 1949. Also, he was inducted into the North Penn Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame for being the leading scorer and member of the undefeated Football team in 1948. Thomas service in the Air Force during the Korean War. He returned to West Chester State, while playing under the late Glenn "Killy" Killinger and lettered in Football & Baseball. He received a Bachelor's degree in 1958. Thomas received a Master's degree from Temple University in 1962. He was school teacher and coach in high schools located in Pa., N.J. Colo. and Calif. He was a College and High School Sports Official. Thomas was a volunteer Football coach at the University of the Pacific during the '70's & '80s. The love of his life was his family and sports. Thomas rooted for any Philadelphia area team. Also, he loved the Seattle Seahawks from a 40 year friendship with current Coach Pete Carroll. He was driven by his Irish "blood" and his Pennsylvania "roots". Thomas was a lifelong member of the Catholic faith. He is survived by his son Michael and wife Marina; a sister, Florence Kile of Sumneytown; and many nieces and nephws in Pa. N.J. & Fla. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Edwin, Bernard, John, Wilbur, Richard, Robert and sister Gertrude Funk.
