Vernon Francis Root of Wagontown Vernon "Dutch" Root, 84, of Wagontown passed away on Tuesday Nov. 13, 2012 at Garden Spot Village. He was the loving husband of Billie Marie Warner Root and they shared 63 years of marriage. Born on June 6, 1928 in Honey Brook, he was the son of the late Charles J. Root and Verna Lewis Root. Dutch worked for 38 years for Philadelphia Electric Co. as a lineman, foreman and drafter, before retiring in 1988. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He was an avid trap shooter and bowler as well as a sports fan, especially baseball and football. He was a member of the Masonic Goddard Lodge #383. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Kenneth T. Root, daughter, Cheryl Root Dennis wife of Douglas B. Dennis, son, Bob Root husband of Kate Root, son, Charlie Root husband of Barb Root; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dutch is also survived by brother, Harold Root. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Maclean-Chamberlain Funeral Home, Rt. 340, Wagontown, with a time of visitation from 10 till 11 a.m. before the service. Interment will be at Upper Octorara Cemetery, Parkesburg, following the service.
