William A. Niemeyer Obituary
William A. Niemeyer of Media William A. Niemeyer, 87, local business owner, passed away on Feb. 16, 2014, at Martins Run Life Care Facility. Born on April 18, 1926, to the late William and Anna Niemeyer of Philadelphia, he spent his early years helping with the family owned baking business. In 1944 he graduated from West Philadelphia High School. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Army, serving in Japan with the 3119 Signal Service Battalion, during WWII. After discharge from the service, he took a job with Baldwin Locomotive as a machinist. Later he went to work for General Electric as a tool and die maker. In 1951 he married Eleanor Johnson, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. That same year, he and Eleanor moved to Newtown Square to start a lawn and garden business. He continued working nights at General Electric and drove a school bus, during the day, while working to establish that business. His business, Niemeyer Service Center on Route 252 in Newtown Square, remains in the family and continues today. Mr. Niemeyer was very active in the Masonic Lodge and during 1979, held the honor of Illustrious Potantate for LuLu Temple Shriners of Philadelphia. Bill loved people and was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Bill was the devoted father of Karl W. (Kathy) of West Chester, Mark W. of Paris, France and Nancy Spindel (Jonathan) of Charlottesville, Va.; grandfather of Jason Silwick, Joshua and Lindsay Niemeyer and Alex, Nathan and Maggie Spindel; and also survived by his sister, Helen Priggemeier of Cape May, N.J. He was the devoted husband of the late Eleanor J. (nee Johnson). He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret Erb, and his close friend Claire Boskowski. Friends are invited to his viewing from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21st in the Frank C. Videon Funeral Home, Sproul and Lawrence Roads, Broomall, and to his memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22nd in the Spruce Street Baptist church, 3701 Gradyville Road, Newtown Square.
