Dr.  Joseph F. Altomonte Obituary
Dr. Joseph F. Altomonte of Exton Dr. Joseph F. Altomonte passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at home with his family by his side. He was 80 years old. Born March 3, 1934 in Uniontown, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (nee Pagano) Altomonte and the beloved husband of Leslie (nee McAneny). Dr. Altomonte graduated from the University of Rome Medical School in 1963. He served as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps in Vietnam from 1965 - 1966, earning the Air Medal for Meritorious Achievement as well as a Bronze Star. Dr. Altomonte opened a private practice on Trooper Rd. in Norristown in 1970, beginning a career of family practice for more than 43 years. He served as House Physician at St. Gabriel's Hall for 42 years, and was the team doctor for the Methacton High School football team in the 80's and 90's. Dr. Altomonte was well known for his compassion, bedside manner, and sense of humor. In addition to his wife Leslie, Dr. Altomonte is survived by his daughter, Karyn Bennett (fianc Michael Rucci), and daughter, Holly Altomonte, RN; his son, Joseph (Dawn); his stepsons, Kyle Mitchell (Jennifer) and Todd Mitchell; as well as grandchildren, Danielle, Oliver, Lauren, Olivia, Marley. Joella, Kate and Charlotte, and his great granddaughter, Ava; a sister, Josephine Tavernit (Sam); many nieces and nephews; along with thousands of patients he lovingly cared for. Relatives, friends, patients, fellow practitioners and colleagues are invited to share in Dr. Altomonte's Life Celebration service from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 30th, and from 8 to 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, at Boyd-Horrox of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Visitation BVM, 190 N. Trooper Rd. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dr. Altomonte's name can be made to Einstein Montgomery Hospice, 1330 Powell St., Suite 100, Norristown, PA 19401 or to the , 1626 Locust St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.
