Stephen S. Evans Obituary
Stephen S. Evans, Formerly of West Chester Stephen S. Evans, PhD., Colonel USMC (Ret), age 60, died suddenly on June 22, 2014 in his Stafford, Va. home. Born on May 11, 1954 in Bryn Mawr, Pa., he was the son of Philip F. and Mary L. Evans. Steve was a 1972 graduate of Henderson High School. He obtained his BS in Education from West Chester State College in 1976, and a MA. in History in 1980 from West Chester University. He later earned his Doctorate in Medieval History from Temple University. This education resulted in his authoring and publishing several books and numerous articles in later years. Steve and his twin brother, Craig, both joined the United States Marine Corps in June 1976. Stephen proudly served his nation as a Marine officer for 30 years. He retired as a Colonel in 2006. He then began a second career as the Acquisitions Editor for the Marine Corps Press, located at the Marine Corps University, in Quantico, Va. The discipline and patriotism instilled in him by the Marine Corps never left him, as family and friends will attest. Steve loved working out at the gym, beautifying his yard, and spending time with his family. He took great pleasure in recounting his days as a wrestler, both as a captain of the Henderson team, and then again as a member of the WCSC team. He is survived by his mother and father, Philip and Mary Evans of West Chester, Pa., wife Kris Evans , step-daughter Denise and Mike Maddox, step-daughter Nicole and Danny Thompson, all of Stafford, Va., daughter Victoria and Tim Wilson-Richards of Tynemouth, U.K.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Eric Evans, of Honeybrook, Pa, Douglas Evans, of Citrus Springs, Fla., and Craig Evans and his wife, Dawn, of Exton Pa. He is also survived by Craig's daughters, Sarah Evans and Molly and Kenrick Hartman, and Doug's children, Alicia Evans and Stuart Evans, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, Fredericksburg, Va.
