Deborah Mary Arena Obituary
Deborah Mary Arena of Newark, Del. Deborah Mary Arena, a woman who truly embodied the spirit of God, passed from her earthly life surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with an aggressive cancer, and entered into her heavenly home on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at the age of 63. She touched many lives and was loved deeply by those who knew her. She took great joy in everyday life, she loved her family, her friends, and fully embraced the responsibilities of being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Born Dec. 21, 1950, she was the daughter of Rose M. Clementi and the late Louis Clementi, formerly of Ashland, Mass. and was a 1968 graduate of Ashland High School. Throughout her life, she resided in Newark, Del., Landenberg, Pa., Ashland, Mass., and Millis, Mass. Her devotion to the Catholic faith was an important part of her daily life, and she was an active member of St. John - Holy Angels Parish (Newark, Del.), participating in the church's prayer group and the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality for many years. She loved to sing and performed as a part of the Charles River Chorale (Millis, Mass.) in the 1980's, as well as multiple church choirs over time. Over the past 20 years, she volunteered at the "As the Spirit Leads" radio program and Marian Communications on a weekly basis. She loved working on arts and crafts projects, and had a keen eye for design. Her favorite spot to vacation was on Cape Cod, and she enjoyed visiting Lancaster County, Pa. for the culture, crafts, shows and shopping. The family is profoundly grateful for the treatment and care she received at Christiana Hospital, The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care throughout her suffering. In addition, the family would like to thank and recognize the many people who offered well wishes, cards, and prayers during her final months. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, John J. Arena; and their five children, Christopher J. Arena (wife Kimberley), of Bear, Del., Margaret M. Foraker (husband Brian), of Wilmington, Del., Thomas J. Arena, of Bear, Del., Jonathan F. Arena, of Bear, Del., Frank A. Arena (wife Shelby) of Newark, Del.; her brother, Mark S. Clementi (wife Joan), of Northborough, Mass.; her mother, Rose M. Clementi, of Milford, Mass.; six grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing which will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24th, at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, Wilmington, DE 19808. An additional viewing will be held from 9:30 t0 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25th, at Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark, DE, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Birthright of Delaware, 1311 N. Scott Street, Wilmington, DE 19806.
