Jan R. Szafranski of Chesterbrook Jan R. Szafranski, of Chesterbrook, died April 26, 2011, at his home after a lengthy illness. Mr. Szafranski was born in Allegheny County on December 28, 1939, a son of the late Raymond and Margaret (Attenboro) Mitchell. He was 71. Mr. Szafanski graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in Pittsburgh. He served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal. For many years Mr. Szafranski was the northeast sales manager for Smith-Blair Inc. headquartered in Texarkana, Arkansas. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, especially attending their sporting events. Mr. Szafranski is survived by his wife, Leslie (Custer) Szafranski, passing away on their 24th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are his daughter Karen Ahern (Jim) of Downingtown, his son, David Szafranski (Kim) of Upper Macungie, and his stepson, Eric Ottaviano, at home. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren and Emily Ahern and Kaitlyn and Ashley Szafranski. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Good Shepherd Chapel on the grounds of the Limerick Garden of Memories, 44 Swamp Pike, Limerick. Officiating will be Father Steve Lybrand, chaplain with Life Choice Hospice. Friends may call the the Chapel after 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
