Ad Allen Crable Jr., 77, of Waynesboro, Va., died Thursday in the Shenandoah House, Fishersville, after a short illness.
Bud, as he was called by most, was married to Charlene Pothuisje Crable. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Sept. 19.
Born in Paris, Ill., on Sept. 22, 1933, he was the son of the late Ad Allen and Wanda Samford Crable.
He was employed by Du Pont de Nemours for 36 years, working in six states and Europe, retiring in 1991. He moved back to Waynesboro where he spent time with family, woodworking, fishing, and hunting.
"My greatest reward in life was strong beliefs and the love of my wife, friends and children," he said shortly before he died.
He was active in his church and his community.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Anne Hurt; four children, Wesley Trent Crable of Washington, D.C., Brett Crable and his wife, Jan, of Richmond, Holly Graver and her husband, Rich, of Chester Springs, Pa., and Ad A. Crable III, and his wife, Jennifer Kopf, of Lancaster, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, followed by burial.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
