William Baxter "Bill" Oates Obituary
William 'Bill' Baxter Oates of Chadds Ford William "Bill" Baxter Oates, 74, of Chadds Ford, and formerly from Collingdale, passed away on December 18, 2011. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Joan Oates (nee Rodgers) of Chadds Ford, whom he had known since the first grade; and loving father of William B., Jr. (Emeteria) of The Woodlands, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Jane Oates and Joanne Emerson to whom he was especially close. Mr. Oates was preceded in death by his father, former Collingdale police Chief Joseph Oates, his mother, Alice Oates (nee McLaughlin) and his siblings, Joseph W. Oates and Mary Thomas. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Collingdale High School. He was the long time superintendent of Gillespie and Ritchie Plumbing and Heating. Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Also, he was a former member of the Delaware County Planning Commission, and former Committeeman of Collingdale Borough. Relatives and friends are invited to Bill's Life Celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at Spencer T. Videon of Drexel Hill, PA, 400 Shadeland Ave, Drexel Hill, PA 19026. His funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. Interment Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
