Mary Lou Smith, formerly of Downingtown Mary Lou Smith, 70, of Mountville, formerly of Downingtown, died suddenly at home on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. Born in Havertown, she was the daughter of the late "Peggy" Alma and Joseph A. Manning. Mary Lou was married for 42 years to Bart D. Smith. Earlier in her life, she was devoted to God as a sister of the Order of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. After leaving, she began a family. She was a devout Roman Catholic her entire life. She was a secretary and substitute teacher at St. Joseph's Elementary School in Downingtown for over 10 years, and a secretary at Kimberton Waldorf School for 15 years. Mary Lou loved to read, travel, live and love. She loved cats and dogs and had many throughout her years, frequently adopting strays. She was a voracious reader and loved word puzzles. Her greatest passion was for family and children. She loved the little ones, especially her grandchildren. A woman of the highest moral and ethical character, she was held in high regard by all who knew her and will be dearly missed by many. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Bart; and two children, Scott P. Smith of New Holland and Heather L., wife of Mark Magrecki of Columbia, Pa.; three grandchildren, Mark A. Smithson of Pottstown, Jacob and Zoe Magrecki; brother, Joseph A. Manning, Jr. and wife, Judy, of Westminster, Md.; and brother-in-law David Smith of Ferndale, Pa. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16th at St. Peter Church, 2835 Manor Road, West Brandywine, where family and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery, West Brandywine.
