David J. Tompkins Obituary
David J. Tompkins of Avondale David J. Tompkins, age 48 of Avondale, passed away at home on Monday, September 9, 2013. He was the husband of Jeanne Papagno Tompkins with whom he would have celebrated 19 years of marriage this coming October. He was born in West Chester, son of Janet Hurrey Tompkins and the late Elmer "Whitey" Tompkins, III of Avondale, Pa. He was a member of Newark United Pentecostal Church, Newark, Del. Among his many talents, he was a welder/fabricator who had recently begun creating metal art pieces. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout and a Scout Leader. He loved being outdoors hunting and fishing. His love of his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews brought David much joy and pride. The beautiful kind spirit of David will be remembered, as he left a lasting impression with all the lives he touched. Surviving besides his wife & mother is a son: Joshua Tompkins at home, three siblings: Howard G. husband of Betsy Plankinton Tompkins of Lamar, Pa., Cynthia T. Austin of Christiana, Pa., and Kimberly J. wife of Thomas McElroy, Sr. of Douglasville, Ga. A memorial celebration of Dave's life will take place from the Newark United Pentecostal Church, 73 Salem Church Road, Newark, Del. on Saturday, September 14th at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven J. Beardsley officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
