Thomas "Tommy" Slater Obituary
Thomas 'Tommy' Slater of Downingtown Thomas "Tommy" Slater, age 9, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Born in Falls Church, Va., he was the beloved son of Sean Christopher and Heidi Huseby Slater. Tommy was currently a 3rd grade student at West Bradford Elementary School. One of Tommy's favorite things to do was swim. He participated in Special Olympics with the West Chester University Adaptive P.E. Program, known as the "WCU Rammies". He also participated in the Special Olympics Track & Field through West Bradford Elementary, and was a member of both the WBYA Soccer League and West Side Little League Baseball team. The Slater family is also very active with Chester County Down Syndrome Interest Group (CCDSIG). In addition to his parents, Tommy is survived by his brothers, Jay, Todd and John; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Deborah Slater of Virginia Beach, Va.; maternal grandparents, Thomas and Marilyn Huseby of Sarasota, Fla.; and by his paternal great-grandmother, Bettye McGuire. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28th, at Calvary Fellowship Church, 95 W. Devon Drive, Downingtown. Today, Friday, a visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335. Interment will be private.
