James D. "Jim" Craig Obituary
James D. "Jim" Craig of Downingtown James D. "Jim" Craig, 81, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Neighborhood Hospice in West Chester. He was the husband of Judith Parks Craig, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage. Born in Camden, N.J., he was the son of the late Edith W. Norton Craig and James Harris Craig. He was raised in Gibbstown, N.J., and lived in Dunedin, Fla., and Pitman, Bloomingdale and Lincoln Park, N.J., before moving to Downingtown in 1972. Jim graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1950 and Camden Commercial in 1952 with an associate's degree in accounting. He was honored to serve his country during the Korean conflict at the Ordinance Training Command in Aberdeen, Md. He was employed by Du Pont in various positions from 1951 to 1985 when he took early retirement. He continued to work for another 20 years as an independent consultant with Du Pont and a sales representative and consultant with several companies in the metals business. He was a long-time and faithful member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Downingtown, serving at various times as Treasurer, Senior Warden and as Finance Chairman and Property Chairman while serving on the Vestry. His ministry also included support to the parish by assisting in the office with accounting and bookkeeping. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, going to auctions, and watching sports of all kinds, particularly ice hockey. Most of all he enjoyed many happy hours with and taking care of his family, his church family and friends. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his daughter, Patricia Williams and her husband, John; two sons, Mark S. Craig and David S. Craig and his wife, Megan; eight grandchildren, Kelle Workman (Jeremy), John Williams, Jr. (Jessica) and SSgt. Patrick C. Williams (Kathryn), Mark Jr. and Lauren Craig, and Hannah, Delaney and Charlotte James Craig; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant son, James Thomas, and his brother, Robert Craig. He was a beloved husband, father, and Pop-Pop to his family and a wonderful, caring friend and mentor to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but always in our hearts. A celebration of his life will take place at St. James' Episcopal Church, 409 East Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown, on Saturday, November 23, 2013 with visitation from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. Interment will be private.
