Edward E. Wilkinson Obituary
Edward E. Wilkinson, 92, of Coatesville, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the Coatesville VA Hospital.
He was the husband of Betty M. Wilkinson, who preceded him in death in 2008 having shared 65 years of marriage.
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary Patterson Wilkinson.
Edward was a 1939 graduate of Coatesville High School, where he served as class president. During this time he also worked in the Wilkinson 3rd Avenue Restaurant. Upon graduation he attended Taylor Business School where he met his future wife, Betty.
In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and flew Corsairs as a pilot and instructor. He continued serving his country for 22 years in the Naval Reserve.
He began a 30-year career at Lukens Steel Co., retiring in 1983 as supervisor of Safety & Plant Protection.
Edward was a member of the Coatesville Hall of Fame and served on the committee of the Coatesville Sports Hall of Fame.
Edward was a lifelong member of Olivet United Methodist Church, where he served as a lay leader. He and his wife, Betty served the church selflessly and he held many offices and served on numerous boards. He was the recipient of the Order of Olivet Award.
Surviving him are his children, Tom Wilkinson, husband of Lynn; Don Wilkinson, husband of Jeannie; and JoAnn Snyder, wife of Mike. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Olivet United Methodist Church, 310 E. Chestnut St., Coatesville, PA 19320.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at the Harris-Mountain Funeral Home, 1030 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the Olivet United Methodist Church.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Coatesville VA Medical Center Hospice Unit, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Road, Coatesville, PA 19320; or Olivet United Methodist Church at the above address.
