Ralph B. Watson Jr. Obituary
Ralph B. Watson Jr. of West Chester went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014.
Ralph was the husband of the late Paula Sunday Watson, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in West Chester, he was the only son of the late Ralph B. Watson and the late Jennie Brown Watson.
As a youth, Ralph was very active in Boy Scout Troop 6, where he became a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He was a 1950 graduate of West Chester High School, where he played basketball, baseball and football, which he captained in his senior year.
Ralph established himself as a household name in the community as an employee and eventual owner of his family business, Watson's Ice and Spring Water, where he worked for more than 60 years.
Ralph was a lifelong contributor to the West Chester area and was the first recipient of The Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by The Chamber of Commerce of Greater West Chester in 2006.
His list of affiliations includes The Baptist Church of West Chester, where he was a member for more than 65 years and served as a trustee and the endowment treasurer; West Chester Borough, where he served as fire chief from 1968-1971; Fame Fire Company, where he was a life member and served as a past president; First West Chester Fire Company and the Chester County Fireman's Association, where he also served as a life member; West Chester Masonic Lodge 322 F.&A.M., where he served as past master and trustee; Howell Royal Arch Chapter 202; Gunning Bedford Council 1; Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Reading, 32nd Degree; West Chester Forest 22 Tall Cedars of Lebanon; LuLu Shrine Temple; Royal Order of Jesters; Philadelphia Court 72 and The Conestoga Shrine Club. where he served as past president and treasurer; B.P.O. Elk's Lodge 853; the West Chester Golf & Country Club, where he served as past president; and the Chester County Sports Hall of Fame, of which he was a charter member and treasurer.
Although his community involvement was immeasurable, Ralph's true passion was his dedication to family.
He was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be fondly remembered by his sisters, Nancy Watson and Doris Schrumpf, both of Coatesville; daughters, Susan Good and her husband, Don, of Ephrata, Diane Watson Treon of West Chester, and Cathy Zambuto and her husband, Vincent, of Wagontown; grandchildren, Matt, Laura, Ross, Paige, Douglas, Daniel, Scott, Andrew, Matthew, Grace, Ella and Jack; 10 wonderful great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ralph was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Wilson.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at the Baptist Church of West Chester, 221 S. High St., West Chester, PA 19382.
Interment will be in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home Inc., 410 N. Church St., West Chester, 610-696-1181, www.DellaFH.com, and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at the above church.
