Thomas Smith Obituary

Thomas Reed Smith of Wilmington, Del. Thomas Reed Smith, 57 died Sunday May 3, 2015. Mr. Smith was born in Concord, Mass., son of William Reed Smith and Elizabeth Josephine Smith. His family moved to College Station, Texas where his father ran the Psychology Department at Texas A&M. His father was an officer in the Navy during WWII, and on Sunday night, cadets from Texas A&M came for family dinner before being shipped off to Vietnam. This instilled a great respect in Tom for our military and their service to our country. After graduation from A&M Consolidated High School, Tom attended Texas A&M were he played football and baseball and became a loyal Aggies fan. He graduated from the University of Utah in Salt Lake with a BS in Finance. While in college, Tom made extra cash being a bodyguard for Donny and Marie Osmond. Happy memories for Tom included playing and performing in his rock band with Bill Boswell and friends in his late teens and early twenties. Playing his guitars, his cellos or the piano with great enthusiasm was a daily occurrence. After graduation, Tom worked for Morgan Stanley in San Francisco and New York. He and his family moved to the Philadelphia area where he worked for different financial institutions. For the last two years Tom has worked 24/7 on creating an internet site called Vetslinq. Doing for others and helping others was one of Tom’s strongest attributes. Tom is survived by his wife, Lindsay Scott Smith; his son, Eric Thomas Smith; his daughter, Madeleine Suzanne Smith; his step daughters, Bettina Lindsay Scott and Sydney Tyler Scott; his mother-in-law, Bettina Lindsay Jenney; and his former wife Suzanne Lauer. In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by his siblings: Steven Smith, Elizabeth Smailes, Matthew Smith, Kriston Hanson, Katrina Thompson and John Smith. Tom will be remembered for his incredible love for his family and dear friends. A service to Celebrate His Life will be May 12 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Christiana Hundred, 505 E. Buck Road, Wilmington, DE 19807. Instead of flowers, please send a contribution to “The Tom Smith Scholarship Fund” which will help a student achieve their musical education at West Chester University. Dear Smith Family, we will greatly miss our dear friend and colleague Tom for his warmth, tenderness, compassion for others and leadership. His creativity, sense of humor and spirit of love was forever evident. I'm confident we will see him on the other side of the veil. We pray that Our Father in Heaven will comfort and give you understanding in this time of trial. All the best to you, dear family.
