James Treglawny, age 99, passed away on June 2, 2014 in Peoria, AZ. Born in Brainerd, MN on November 30, 1914, James grew up in Valley City, ND where he attended school and graduated from Valley City State University.
James later earned his master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota and completed additional graduate work at Columbia, U.C.L.A. and Stanford in urban sociology and the problems of big cities. He would end up spending 45 years in secondary education, 30 of those years in the Minneapolis Public School System.
James worked as an athletic coach, a high school principal, a specialist in school planning and developments and he spent 23 years as a school administrator and planner. He also served as Minneapolis representative on many national, regional and local committees, boards and educational groups. James was the chairman of the Minneapolis Schools Commission on International Understanding, president of the Principals Forum of Minneapolis, U.N. Day chairman for the city, and the school representative on the coordination committee with the Park Board, Library Board and City Planning Agencies.
James was a World War II Veteran, serving in the United States Navy and a current member of the American Legion. He was the former president of the B-4-9 Lions Club, the former vice president of the University of Minnesota Alumni Club, Sun City, and a former member of the Sun City Country Club.
James was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Una Treglawny. He is survived by his nephews, Allen Treglawny of Sun City, AZ and Larry Treglawny of Captain Cook, HI and his niece, Donna Warren of Los Altos, CA.
