Paul John Ussel, 89, was welcomed into the loving arms of our heavenly Father on June 29, 2013. Paul was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 31, 1923, the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. William Ussel.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, William, Edward, Dorothy, and Mildred.
Paul was raised in Pittsburgh where he excelled both academically and athletically. Paul worked throughout high school, as he helped support his mother after his father passed away during his sophomore year in high school.
Following high school Paul enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Paul met and married Catherine D. Ackerman on November 10th, 1946 and moved to Aitkin, MN upon being honorably discharged from the Navy. Paul attended St. Cloud State University in Minnesota graduating with a degree in Business Education. Paul's first teaching job was in Phelps, WI, he also taught in Washburn and Ashland also in WI. Paul received his Master's Degree in School Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Paul and the family moved to Muskego, WI where he was the assistant principle and then the principal of Muskego High School until retiring in 1984.
Catherine passed away on August 30th 1983. Paul and Catherine raised five children whom he loved very much. Paul's eldest daughter Catherine L. McDonnell (Bill) passed away in June of 2012.
In June of 1984 Paul married Jean Napientak, they moved to Sun City West in 1994. Paul and Jean loved Sun City West, where they enjoyed playing golf, swimming, and bowling. Jean passed away in November, 2009.
Paul is survived by his children, Joe Ussel (Lynn) of Muskego, Gary Ussel (Jinny) of Florence, Kentucky, Peggy Kunick (Doug) of Eau Claire, WI and Ginny Zuber of Peoria, AZ. Paul is also survived by 12 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews including the Huber Family from Indiana. Paul is also survived by his three step-children and their families.
Paul was an avid sportsman. He was passionate about golf, enjoying many rounds of golf with his children, grandchildren and numerous friends. He was especially proud of his Hole In One, on August 16, 2007, at the age of 83. Bowling was also one of Paul's favorite past-times, he bowled in tournaments all over the United states. He bowled a 300 game in 1962. Paul loved most all sports, he enjoyed many hours watching games on television, alone or with family or friends. He enjoyed poker, every Monday and Thursday. Paul loved his time living at The Legacy assisted living. He enjoyed teasing with the staff, always finding something to laugh and talk about, a bit of a flirt, he loved all of his caregivers, dining staff, nurses, volunteers, his friend Charlotte. He in turn received the most wonderful care and felt well-loved. He enjoyed his fellow residents, activity personnel, playing bingo, blackjack and the music entertainment. He loved music, especially Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
Paul truly enjoyed helping students in their educational pursuits, having a positive impact on their lives was most rewarding. Paul was a man of faith, praying daily for those he cared about the most. Paul will be greatly missed!
There will be a visitation on Wednesday July 3, 2013 at the Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel at 13738 Camino del Sol, Sun City West from 4:00-6:00 P.M. A Mass/service will be offered at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic church at 10:00 A.M. Friday July 5, 2013, 19002 N. 128th Ave. Sun City West, Arizona 85375.
