Vaughn grew up in Illinois, attended the University of Illinois, served in the Army, and raised his family in Colorado, Indiana and Illinois. He settled in his home state of Illinois as a Jeweler with his own store in Alton, Illinois. He and Helen retired in 1975 and moved to Sun City where they enjoyed their friends, sports and family. As a part of the "Greatest" generation he and his siblings did what was needed to serve their country, work hard and raise families that they were proud of. He loved participating in sports and gave that love of sports to his children. He owned his own businesses and mentored his children to do the same. He loved his friends and cherished those relationships. As he aged and fought Parkinson's disease, he inspired others by his never ceasing sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye was infectious. He was fun loving, adored by many and inspirational in how he dealt with aging.
