Harold (Bear) Smith passed away at the Veterans Community Living Center in Phoenix on March 2, 2013 at the age of 68. He was born on August 13, 1944 and received his education in Hilo, Hawaii schools.
In retirement his hobby was his garden, but enjoyed making furniture, as a talented wood worker.
He is survived by his daughter, Robyn Smith; his son, Jedidiah Smith; four grandchildren in Salinas, California; and his fiancee, Carol Hildebrand of Sun City. He is also survived by many good friends.
His service will be at the National Memorial Cemetery at 23129 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix on Friday, March 22 at 2:00 P.M.
In March 1964, he enlisted and served as a U.S. Army Military Police Sniper and Criminal Investigation Division Detective. He earned the rank of Sgt. First Class with overseas service including 2 Vietnam tours, Korea, Germany and others. His highest awards/medals include the Silver Star and the Bronze Star.
