Ruth Nelson

Ruth Nelson, of Marstons Mills, daughter of the late Evan and Marie Ostrom, widow of the late Leroy Roy J. Nelson, passed away Nov. 6, at Cape Cod Hospital, at the young age of 86, after a brief illness. She was born and raised in Walpole and was a graduate of both Walpole High and Norwood High/Henry OPeabody School of Hairdressing. She married Roy Nelson in 1953, settled in Norwood and raised their three children Gregory, Donna, and Barbara Ann. She was an accomplished hairdresser and later in life she operated the Prop Stop restaurant at the Norwood Airport with her husband. After her retirement, Ruth moved to the Cape. She traveled often, many times to the Caribbean. She most recently discovered a love for Cancun, Mexico. After the loss of her daughter Barbara Ann in 1997, Ruth dedicated much of her time to raising money for the Barbara Ann Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund. She was often referred to as the bottle lady for the many hours that she spent at the bottle recycling center raising funds for the scholarship. Ruth was known for her many talents, knitting Christmas socks and afghans, a whiz at bookkeeping, and most especially her baking and cooking talents; no meal was complete without a dessert. Ruth enjoyed the fun and laughter of spending time with her granddaughters, and her great-grandchildren. The love and joy she brought into so many peoples lives will never be replaced.
