Leif W. Hansen Leif W. Hansen was born in Oslo, Norway on December 28, 1909, the oldest of 7 children. After his parents moved to the U.S when he was very young, he lived with his 2 grandmothers. At the age of 17, he immigrated to this country, joining his family in the Boston area. He worked in machine shops in the area. In 1936 he married Virginia Larson, who had arrived from Sweden 6 years earlier. He began working at the Watertown Arsenal and then joined the Seabees division of the Navy, where he served for 2 1/2 years during World War II, both in the U.S. and in the Pacific. He continued working at the Arsenal until his retirement in 1972. They lived in Waltham from 1962 to 2008. After 66 years of marriage, Virginia died in 2002 and in 2008 he moved to the Scandinavian Living Center in West Newton. He passed away on Tuesday 5/11/10 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Leif leaves a brother, John, in California, a sister-in-law, Ingegerd Larson in Pennsylvania, his nephew and niece, Ivar and Donna Larson from Colorado and various other nieces and nephews. Visiting hours in the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road Belmont on Friday May 14 from 10:00 - 11:00 Am. Followed by a funeral home service at 11:00 Am. Interment V. A.
