Bruce Tanner Blackman

Bruce Blackman passed away peacefully at his home in Newport Beach. Bruce was born in Altadena, CA. As a youth he discovered his life's passion while working after school for a local clockmaker. This led to earning a degree from Bradley University's School of Horology and a life of fulfillment being Newport's "family jeweler." After studying business at USC, Bruce set up Blackman Ltd. in Newport Beach. Bruce was proud of the fact that his "Salon of Fine Gems" is entering its sixth decade of providing unique and quality serviceA lifetime competitive sailor and member of Newport Harbor Yacht Club, Bruce very much enjoyed the camaraderie and spirit of adventure that yachting provided. At the end of the 1963 Transpac Race, Bruce met Patricia Burgess in Honolulu. They were married in 1965. During their 50 years together, they enjoyed attending international jewelry shows and seeking adventure along the way.Whether helping tag albatross for research on Midway Island, hunting quail in Mexico, tending to his Bonsai Trees, creating a gourmet feast for his friends or golfing at Santa Ana Country Club, Bruce made the most of each experience and each interaction. Our Brucie was well known for his generous spirit, genuine smile and the constant twinkle in his eyes. He passed away, several days after returning with his wife from a final trip to Bangkok and Hong Kong.In addition to Trish, Bruce is survived by his sister Joyce (Dick), brother Jerry (Betsy), and four children, Susan, Stephen (Lisa), David (Melinda), and Robert (Lorie), and five grandchildren, Cori, Ryan, Grace, Jack and Hayes. Bruce exemplified the values of passionate work with integrity while living every day to the fullest. A celebration of life will be forthcoming.
