HAMPTON - Maceo Alphonso Adkinson, 87, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Sentara Nursing Center, Hampton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Adkinson, and his parents, John and Martha Adkinson. He is survived by four daughters, Jacqueline Cherry-King, Sharon Byrd Simmons, Pamela Jenkins and Sheryl Rainey (Floyd); a sister, Gwendolyn Anderson; a brother-in-law, William C. Brown (Edith); nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to the staff and residents at Sentara Nursing Center for all the loving care that they gave him and his family. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Outreach Ministry Program at First Church of Newport News (Baptist), 2300 Wickham Ave., Newport News, VA 23607. Arrangements are by O.H. Smith and Son Funeral Home.
