Painter, Oren F. - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Oren F. Painter passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was a native of Montana. He retired from Westinghouse Nuclear Power Division after 20 years of service. He was a WWII veteran and recipient of the Legion of Merit. He proudly served his country and retired with 22 years of service, first serving in the Navy during the war and then in the Army. He was a fantastic father, grandfather, and husband. He excelled in everything he ever did. Oren loved the sea and sailed extensively on his sailboat, The Godspeed. He was preceded in death by his son Bryan F. Painter. He is survived by his wife of 67 wonderful years, Sue Painter; his sons, Steven L. Painter and wife Jean of Quinton, VA., and Patrick J. Painter and wife Charmaine of Queensland, Australia. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Katie, Will, Molly, and Jack. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Penny Sr., Brian Lamont - Williamsburg  
WILLIAMSBURG - On February 26, 2015, Brian Lamont Penny, Sr. left his earthly body and gained a Heavenly one. He was 41 years old. Brian was a life-long resident of Williamsburg. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1992. He was a long-time employee of Wendy's International and then Wen Gap. He was a hard worker and loved his family and friends to the fullest. His humor and wit was one of a kind and he could easily find the light side of a situation. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys and WWE fan. He always enjoyed a friendly game of Madden with his friends. He loved hard, played hard but always had your back when you needed it. Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Murphy and grandfather William D. Penny, Sr. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Tammy Penny; one son, Brian Penny Jr.; two daughters, Sydney Bowman and Nancy Penny; father, Byron Murphy; grandmother, Marjorie D. Penny; uncles, William D. Penny, Jr. (Joyce), Walter Penny and Lorenzo Penny (Sandy); aunt, Marjorie M. Penny; cousins, Michael Penny (Roselyn), Jesika Penny, Taya Trower, Sharnell Trower; 7 great-cousins; loving in-laws, Sadie Glass, Karen West (James), Ruth Anthony (David); nephew, Allen Anthony; nieces, Victoria Anthony and Rachel Anthony; and a host of relatives and many, many dear friends. A visitation will take place on Sunday, March 1 from 2-5pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, VA, where a service will be held on Monday, March 2 at 1:30pm. Peterman, Patricia Jean - Hampton  
HAMPTON - Patricia Jean Peterman, 86, passed away at home on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Born in Indiana Pennsylvania, she was a loving, kind and strong wife, mother and friend who touched more lives than she could ever know. She loved horses, teddy bears, family and friends. Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, David N. Peterman (USN Ret.); her parents, George and Coralie Fields; her siblings George and Lenora. She is survived by her children Donald (Bernadette), Patricia and David (Roberta Sue); nieces; nephews; grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 6:00 pm at the Parklawn - Wood Funeral Home. NEWPORT NEWS - Henry "Pip" Pipkins, 59, passed away March 2, 2015. He is survived by his loving mother Thelma L. Thomas; 4 sisters Charlene Tyler (Michael), Shirley Thomas, Marilyn Smith (Larry) and Ethelina Thomas; his partner of 32 years Bonnie Smith; 8 children, 2 sons Reiko D. Pipkins and Henry R. Pipkins, Jr.; 6 daughters Angelique Williams (Dimitri), Sonya Pipkins, Katira Pipkins, April Egger (R.J.), Cheryl Martorell and Melissa Altrath; 12 grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends. Pride, Mary Louise Archer - Smithfield  
SMITHFIELD - Mary Louise Archer Pride, 81, passed away at home on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. She was a native of Matoaca, VA, lived in Poquoson for most of her life, and was a resident of Smithfield the past 18 years. She was a member of Bethel Temple in Hampton, and Victory Christian Center, Poquoson. Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Joseph Davis Pride; parents, Annie Lee & John Lyman Archer; and brothers, John Archer Jr., and Franklin Archer. She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Lee Edmonds (Marty), Julie Ann Sonson (Chuck), Patricia Mae Wilkins (Randy), and Jo Lyn Topping (William); nine grandchildren, Lauren Williams, Joseph Edmonds, Ashley Sonson, Charles Sonson, Ryan Wilkins, Casey Wilkins, William Topping, Davis Topping, and Mary Kathryn Topping; and great-grandchildren, Liddy Edmonds and Lila Williams. The family will receive friends Friday, March 6, 6:30-8:00 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at Patty's home in Smithfield. A Celebration of Louise's life will be held Saturday, 1:00 PM, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, by Rev. Barry Throckmorton. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. PRITCHETT, BARBARA ANN - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Barbara Ann Pritchett departed this Earth to be with her maker on Friday, February 27,2015 at the age of 72. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Albert and Ethel Sigismondi but made Virginia her home for the last 40 years. Barbara was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and loved her companion animals as family. Barbara was a dedicated teacher's assistant who worked for the Newport News Public Schools' ED/LD programs for nearly 15 years. She enjoyed crochet, craft fairs, and the fellowship provided by her fellow crafters and members of Northside Church of Christ. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Howard "Buck" Babylon Jr., her husband, John L. Pritchett Sr., and several beloved companion animals. She is survived by her only son, Warnie L. Pritchett II, her daughter-in-law Wendy L. Pritchett, her stepson, Richard Perez, her four cherished cats and, all the students whose lives she influenced. Per her long standing final request, no services will be held. Pruden Jr., John H. "Jack" - Williamsburg  
WILLIAMSBURG - John H. "Jack" Pruden, Jr., 73, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. He spent his career in construction with a majority of his time at C.A. Barrs. Jack was 1997 Man of the Year for the Yorktown Exchange Club and a member of Martiaux Association. He was also a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he served as Jr. Warden and Sr. Warden. Jack was preceded in death by his parents John, Sr. and Rose Pruden. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Armen B. Pruden; children John H. "Jay" Pruden, III and wife Kim of Newport News, Mary Lynn Reed and husband Aaron of Mays Landing, N.J., Channing Warrick Guvernator and husband Chris of Norfolk, Linda A. Wilson of Yorktown, Harry Lee Warrick of Virginia Beach; son-in-law Brian Wilson; grandchildren Ellen and Elizabeth Pruden, Colby and Casey Reed, Luba, Quint, Lana, Priya Guvernator, Colin, Olivia and Chase Wilson. He is also survived by Shirley Martin Pruden. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A private burial will be held at Peninsula Memorial Park.
