Cox, Mary Ash Engleburt - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Mary Ash Engleburt Cox passed away Tuesday, January 20th, 2015 She was born in Old Trap, NC on August 24, 1915. Mary was a former Miss Virginia (1936), a member of American Legion Auxilliary (Phoebus Unit 48), and was retired from Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home, Washington, DC. She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Cox, and is survived by her niece Patti Rogers (John), nephews Joe Sharp (June), Tommy Smith (Sherry), Ashby Smith, and Sandy Stanley (Beverly) as well as many great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Friday, January 23, 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home with a graveside service immediately following at Parklawn Memorial Park at 11:30. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff at Newport News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their loving care of Mary. Dayton, Gary G. - Gloucester  
GLOUCESTER - Gary G. Dayton, 77, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born in Westernport, Maryland on August 17, 1937. He studied pre-med at Potomac State College, Keyser, WV, attended Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton, VA and University of Texas. Gary spent 6 years in the Navy and retired as a Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force. During his service he was stationed in Japan, South Korea, Turkey and various stateside military medical facilities. He retired from Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, VA in 1977. He then became the director and later Staff Tech of the Radiology Department at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester, VA, retiring in 1996 after 19 1/2 years of service. Gary was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, Navy and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, Korean Service Medal National Defense, Air Force Overseas Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the NCO Academy Ribbon and various commemorative ribbons and medals. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America, Moose, Elks, American Society of Radiological Technology and Bellamy United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer, loved college sports and pro golf. He remained close to his classmates and was very involved in actives during and after graduating from Bruce High School- Class of 1955. Gary was preceded in death by his brother Terry Dayton and will be dearly missed by his wife, Nance A. Dayton, a son Gary A. Dayton (Donna); daughter Christy Dayton Talbott (Donald); grandsons Kyle S. Talbott and Drew T. Dayton; and granddaughter Alex B. Dayton; sisters Dawn Ann Dayton and Beth Dayton; and long time friends Reverend Andy Agnew. June and Dick Rinard and family. The family will receive friends at Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork Road on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 1 to 2:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester, Virginia is in charge of arrangements.

Dotson, Emory Herbert - Gloucester  
GLOUCESTER - Emory Herbert "Snuffy" Dotson, 65, passed away January 22, 2015 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. Emory was a veteran of the U S Army and was retired from Busch Gardens as a storeroom manager. Emory was a friend to everyone, always ready to talk about any subject and truly loved people. He enjoyed the outdoors, collecting unique items, reading, and sharing his "point of view" with all who would listen. He worked hard at what he loved. Emory has often been described as a "unique individual" and enjoyed every day. He always thought of others before himself and gave freely of his time to anyone in need. His family came first and he will be missed greatly by all, especially his loving pup, Cleo. Emory believed that every day was worth living and we should find something to celebrate daily. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emory and Ruth Dotson; brothers, Johnny Dotson and Curtis Dotson; and father and mother-in-law, Eddie and Viola Pharr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Dotson; brother, Danny Dotson and wife, Vera; sister, Emma Lou Harrell; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and many friends. Danny and nephew, Johnny, were his best friends and shared many great moments together. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 28, 2015 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. A private burial will be at a later date. Douglas, Anna Pitman - Smithfield  
SMITHFIELD - Anna Virginia Pitman Douglas, 87, passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday, January 24, 2015, after an extended illness. Born in Irvington, VA, March 9, 1927, Anna was the daughter of the late Earl and Grace Mitchell Pitman. A beloved wife, mother, sister, and step-mother, Anna leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 23 years, Edgar F. Douglas; her daughter, Anne Wesley Norris of Richmond; a sister, Nellie Walden of Urbanna; her step-children, Paul Douglas, Patricia Stafford, and Lynn Mallonie; five step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Anna is preceded in death by a grandson, John Vernon Swann and a sister, Marjie Barnett. Anna will be remembered for her spirit of helping in the time of need and willfulness in act or deed. She was a passionate homemaker and gardener, always keeping busy. Family and friends will gather 7 pm, Friday, January 30, 2015, in Colonial Funeral Home, for a service celebrating Anna's life with Rev. Tim Phipps officiating, followed by visitation. At 1 pm, Saturday, January 31, a graveside funeral service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Kilmarnock, VA. NEWPORT NEWS - Robyn Draper, 56, died Friday, January 23, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Hampton Roads. She was preceded in death by her parents; Mitton and Martha Draper. Survivors include her sisters; Marti Champine (Richard), Ellen Childress (Lonnie), and her brother; Ed Draper (Cheryl). Ema, Barbara Lindsay - Williamsburg  
WILLIAMSBURG - Barbara Lindsay Ema, 92, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Patriots Colony Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Ema. Her sons are Tom who lives in Denver, Colorado and Bill, who is in Earlysville, Virginia. She was an artist who served in World War II as a map drawer in the WAC's at Fort Riley, Kansas. She then got training in design at Parsons in New York City. She met and married a home town boy from Milwaukee, George Ema. The Army ordered him to Fort Eustis and so the family moved to Williamsburg in 1951 where she lived ever after. She was a homemaker and used her artistic talent to make keepsakes that were sold in shops in the Colonial Williamsburg area. Sha had a wild and wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Patriots Colony Convalescent Center. Online condolences maybe shared with the family at www.bucktroutfuneralhome.net .

Everton, Jack Sample - Virginia Beach  
VIRGINIA BEACH - Surrounded by his loving family, Jack Sample Everton, age 86, departed to be with the Lord on the morning of January 25, 2015. Jack was born on August 29, 1928 in Gum Neck, NC, to Charlie Everton and Sallie Everton. He was the youngest of seven children. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Frances Everton, his son, Eric Everton (Rhonda), his daughters, Beth Templeton (Phillip) and Laura Wineholt (Chuck), and his grandchildren, Kelsey Beville (Mike), Amber Templeton, April Everton, Clarke Templeton, Alex Wineholt, Hannah Everton, and Jenn Wineholt. Jack was fortunate to have a close extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who all enriched his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ray Everton, Delton Everton, and Charles Everton, and his sisters, Velma Sawyer, Hazel Crosswhite, and Annie Mae Phelps. Jack graduated from the East Carolina Teachers College in 1950 with a B.S. in History and English. He later obtained his M.A. in Education in 1958 from East Carolina College. He served his country honorably in the Air Force during the Korean War, was a teacher at Virginia Beach High School, and retired from the US General Accounting Office (GAO) in 1985. Throughout his life, Jack was a dedicated and active member of his community. As a proud and devoted alumnus of East Carolina University, he served as the Chair of the Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1994 to 1996 and was named Board Member Emeritus of the Association in 2014. Jack was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award from East Carolina University in 1993. He was an active member of Baylake United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, faithfully singing for many years in the church choir. He was a charter member of the Tidewater, VA Chapter of Rotary International, an Emeritus Member of the Virginia Beach Senior Golf Club, and a member of the Norfolk Sports Club. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, located at 1457 Independence Blvd in Virginia Beach, VA. The interment will occur on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Princess Anne Memorial Park, located at 1110 North Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach, with a following service celebrating his life at 11:30 A.M. at Baylake United Methodist Church, at 4300 Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. In Jack's memory, his family plans to wear purple and gold to the service to honor his devotion and love for his alma mater. HAMPTON - Ann T. Ezell 84, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2015. She was a lifelong resident of Hampton, Virginia. Ann was preceded in death by her son Brian K. Ezell and her husband Thomas E. Ezell Jr. She is survived by a daughter Jane Ezell of Hampton and a son Thomas E. Ezell III of Yorktown. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, January 29, 2015 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, Pink Heals Tour, or the Animal Aid Society 80 Butler Farm Road, 23666 in Hampton, Virginia.
