Jones, Otelia Riddick - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Mrs. Otelia Riddick Jones, 84, departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on August 20, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Winslow Jones, Jr. and 2 sons, Robert M. Jones and Kevin A. Jones. Otelia is survived by 6 sons, Myron S. Jones, Vincent K. Jones, Dwayne A. Jones, Bruce W. Jones, Darren G. Jones, and Ron C. Jones; 5 daughters, Linda D. Clark, Debra L. Jones, Karen D. Jones, Adawayna M. Davis, and Robin O. Jones; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 daughters-in-law, Brenda, Julie, Cheryl and Hye-Young; and a host of other loving family and many friends. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 5-7 p.m. in Colossian Baptist Church. A home going service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2015, in Colossian Baptist Church with the Rev. Peter A. Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 501 Reddick Road by 12:00 noon on Thursday. Kearns, Dorothy Robertson "Dot" - Hampton  
HAMPTON - Dorothy "Dot" Robertson Kearns, 88, widow of Everett Emory Kearns, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at home with her family by her side. She retired from LaVogue as a seamstress after many years of service. She was an active member of Parkview Church of God. Also known as "Nannie", she was a loving mother and grandmother to two daughters, Shelby K. Meador, Debbie A. Fischer; son, Darrell Ray Kearns; sisters, Sam Crayton, Linda McCullum, Kay Dennis; brothers, Lamarr Robertson, Larry Robertson, Donnie Robertson; grandchildren, Chris Meador, Eddie Brown, Jeremy Carroll, Shanon Kearns; and great grandchildren, Kelsey Meador, Christopher Cameron Meador, Avery Carroll, Myles Carroll, Jonah Carroll, Ryan Brown and Tyler Brown. The family will receive friends Monday, August 24 beginning at 12:30 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at Parkview Church of God with Pastor Mark Hambrick officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kidd, Betty M. - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Betty M. Kidd, 73, born October 21, 1941, collected her wings and flew to join her Lord and Savior on August 18, 2015. Betty Wayne exemplified honorable faith, strength, charisma and unmatched love for family and friends. Whether she was fishing, playing Rummy, spoiling her grandkids with trips to Wendy's, going on adventures with Sara and Charles, relaxing with family or serving God, Betty gleamingly shined with fun and joy. Betty was born in Newport News, VA. Without the ability to hear she attended and graduated from the Staunton School for the Deaf. She retired from being a civil service printer at Ft. Eustis in 1997. Betty is proceeded in death by her parents, George Lee and Mildred W. Morgan; brother, Bill; and grandson, Patrick. She is survived by brothers, Buster and JP Morgan, sister-in-law, Edna (Bill); sons, Carl (Kelly), Pat (Jill) and Jason; grandchildren, Meredith, Logan, Landen and Peighton and a host of close friends and family. A celebration of Betty's life will take place Monday morning at West Hampton Baptist Church with a viewing at 10 followed by a funeral service at 11. Burial will occur after at the Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to West Hampton Baptist Church or the Staunton School for the Deaf. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kirk, Ronald - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Ronald "Ron" Kirk, 50, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015. Born in Kentucky, raised in Charleston, WV, he loved his family, hunting and fishing. His memory is left to be cherished by his parents, Harold and Annelise Kirk; his siblings, Dean Kirk Jr., Trish Happel, Mary Carroll, Carol Holz, Pam Lengyel and Chris Kirk Sr; his friend, John Cerveny; and a host of other loving family. A memorial service will be held 2 pm Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 at Coastal Community Church, Yorktown, VA. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Knipple, Rick Herman - Poquoson  
POQUOSON - Rick Herman Knipple, 63, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015. Born in Altoona, PA, he has lived in the Hampton Roads area since 1972, and most recent a Poquoson resident for 16 years. He served with the U.S. Air Force for 8 years. He retired from Canon Virginia with 25 years service. Rick is survived by his wife Ann (Zeak) Knipple, daughters Kristine Johnson (Keith), Katrina Blevins (Brian), Bridget Johnson (Chris); sister Linda Clabaugh (Steve), brother Gary Knipple, 5 grandchildren and one on the way. Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth (Harris) Knipple. Lawrence, Billy Joe - Newport News  
NEWPORT NEWS - Billy Joe Lawrence a longtime resident of Newport News and a native of Hinton, W. Va. passed away Friday, August 21, 2015. Billy was a member of Temple Baptist Church and retired from Warwick Air. Inc. in 2006 after 36 years of service. He was well known for being a strong , selfless man that would go out of his way to help. He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Virginia Lawrence; two brothers: Ed G. and Jack Lawrence and a sister Mary Lively. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years June Lawrence; two sons: Billy Joe Lawrence, Jr. and his wife Michelle and Matthew Daniel Lawrence and his wife Nanci all of Newport News; a brother Fred Oscar Lawrence and his wife Rita of Yorktown and a sister Joyce Cahoon and her husband Cary of Highland Springs and three grandchildren: Ellie, David and Julia. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 6-7:00pm at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. HAMPTON - Jae'Quan Sharard Mabry, a rising Senior at Norfolk State University, departed this life on August 23, 2015. He is survived by his mother, Kieshenna Mabry; father, Joseph Jackson; a fatherly figure in his life, by whom he was reared, Antonio Brown, Sr.; two brothers: JaJuan Mabry and Antonio Brown, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Sandra Jones; maternal grandfather, William Jones; and maternal great-grandmother, Ada L. Jones.A celebration of life will take place on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at 11am, at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 5405 Roanoke Ave, Newport News, VA. The eulogy will be delivered by Rev. Dr. Dwight S. Marshall, Alice Vivian - Yorktown, VA  
YORKTOWN, VA - Alice Vivian Marshall, 89, left this life on Friday, August 28, 2015. Born in Spring Hope, NC to Milton and Nolia Wood, she attended Louisburg College and moved to Hampton, VA to work for the Federal Government. She met her husband "Bill" on a blind date. They were married on August 30, 1947 and moved to Yorktown in 1964. Vivian was employed with the York County School Division and was a devoted member of Yorktown Baptist Church. Vivian was a head strong woman yet tenderly touched the lives of all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Bruce "Bill" Marshall. She is survived by 2 sons, Thomas, Mike and his wife Toni; 2 grandchildren, Michael and Lauren; sisters Ruth Dowining, Juanita Greene, Rochelle Yoder and her husband Eugene; in addition to many beloved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her long term caregiver Emma Fauntleroy and Tamiko, Flo and Shirley who helped in her final journey. A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. Mather, Richard Increase - Williamsburg  
WILLIAMSBURG - Richard Increase Mather, of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on August 21, 2015 at the age of 88. His beloved wife Nancy Dalton Mather preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Richard Mather, Jr, wife Vicki and grandchildren Krissy, Kimi, Patrick and Kierra; daughter Cynthia and grandson Gavin; son John and wife Glynis and grandsons Dalton and Gregory; daughter Pamela and granddaughter Christiana. He also had seven great grandchildren. Richard attended the US Naval Academy and graduated from American University in Washington DC in 1949. His government service included assignments in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Germany, Japan, and Iran. Funeral services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
