Bertha Taylor Baldwin

NEWPORT NEWS - Bertha Dickinson Taylor Baldwin, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, in her home. Born in Tupelo, Miss., she was a peninsula resident from 1923 to 1934 when her father, the late Dr. Alfred James Dickinson served as pastor of First Baptist Church. She lived on the peninsula since her return in 1946. Mrs. Baldwin was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Newport News Woman's Club. She graduated from Mary Washington College, Class of 1943. Others preceding her in death include her husbands, Lisle E. Taylor, Jack Baldwin; mother, Bertha Thomas Trotter Dickinson; two sisters and one brother. Survivors include three sons, Jay L. Taylor and his wife, Linda of Richmond, Kerry D. Taylor and his wife, Kim of Newport News, Brian W. Taylor and his wife, Martha of Standardsville; and two grandchildren, Ellen Taylor and Ashley Taylor. The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 2, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
