YORKTOWN, VIRGINIA - Carl Elworth Copeland, 86, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2014. Mr. Copeland was a native Fox Hill and Peninsula resident all his life, living in Yorktown since 1963. He was a graduate of Hampton High School Class of 1945 and A Navy veteran of World War II
. Carl began his NASA Apprenticeship in 1947, retiring in 1983 as an Assistant Division Chief. Carl was an active member of Providence Methodist Church. After retirement Carl was a founding member of Inductron Corporation, and a former member of the York Lions Club. During his retirement Carl enjoyed fishing, boating, and riding his Wave Runner at his retirement home on Lake Gaston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mattie Copeland, a brother Howard Copeland Jr., and sisters, Molly Holloway and Bertha Sears. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Flossie Copeland; 2 daughters, Brenda Mills and her husband Clayton of Fredericksburg, and Denise Copeland of Hampton; a sister, Harriett Carter of Fox Hill; 4 grandchildren, Dixie Lane and her husband Russ, Jimmy Mills and his wife Holly, Steven Mills and Bob Mills; great granddaughters, Aimee and Annalee Lane. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Providence United Methodist Church by Rev. C Douglas Akers. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service in the church. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at Clark Cemetery, Fox Hill, VA.
