HAMPTON - Mrs. Carolyn Manson Hines passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at Sentara Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on July 4, 1920, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Chauncey and Mattie Pearl Johnson. She is also preceded in death by her husband, William A. Hines Sr.; and her daughter, Vivian Johnson; two brothers, Nathaniel Manson and Vertis Johnson; and one sister, Dorothy Nolley.
She leaves to cherish her memory, four children, Elsie Hines, of Newport News, William A. Hines Jr. (Carolyn), (Whitestone, Va.), Robert Hines (Jackie), of Hampton, Va., and Reginald Hines (Dominique), of Belair, Md.; one son-in-law, Junious Johnson, of Lawrenceville, Va.; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Chauncey Manson Jr., and one sister, Mary Stanton, of Baltimore, Md., and a host of nieces, other relatives and friends.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be sent to Ms. Elsie Hines at 1202 Pinnacle Circle # 1D, Newport News, VA 23601. The family will make a donation to the Breast Cancer
Society and establishing a scholarship in honor of their mother.
Viewing will be Monday, Dec. 10, from noon to 6 p.m. at Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at First Baptist Church, 229 N. King Street, Hampton. Entombment will be held in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
