Durward Wilson Lewis

NEWPORT NEWS - Durward W. Lewis, 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2014. He was born in Zebulon, NC and had been a Peninsula resident for 65 years. Durward honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He installed the first IBM Computer System at Naval Station Norfolk. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Commerce. Durward was an exemplary human being and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lena C. Lewis. He is survived by his son, Alan D. Lewis and wife, Marie; his daughters, Nadina S. Fentress and husband, Gary, and Caron Schwartz; his brother, Ralph Lewis, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; his sister, Hilda Perry of Zebulon, NC; six grandchildren, Amy McCarthy and husband, Jon, Allison Turkovich and husband, Erik, Carla Howe and husband, Matt, Meredith Moreira and husband, Matt, Jessica Lewis, and Matthew Lewis; six great-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 Noon, Monday, May 12, 2014 at Weymouth Funeral Home by Pastor John Dey. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
