Franklin Monroe Jackson

YORKTOWN - Franklin Monroe Jackson, 80, departed his earthly home on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 and went to his spiritual home, not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. A native of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Frank was a resident of Poquoson/Yorktown for the past 40 years and a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Frank earned his Eagle Scout rank at the age of 14 and continued throughout his life to support scouting. After graduating as his high school Valedictorian (1950), Frank attended the University of Florida on a football/track scholarship, graduating in 1954 with a BA in elementary education. He was then commissioned in the US Air Force, attended flight school where he met his wife, and served 22 years as a pilot. Frank was a Staff Officer at Barksdale AFB, LA, Chief of Operations at Goose Bay AFB, Labrador, Canada, and served in Vietnam, receiving numerous metals and commendations throughout his military career. After retirement he taught fourth grade at Poquoson Elementary School for 21 years. He was a past Master of Poquoson Lodge #49, past District Deputy Grand Master of Masonic District 14-A, and life member of Warwick Lodge #336. Frank was a member of Newport News Scottish Rite, Khedive Shrine Center and Peninsula Shrine Club. He was past president of Langley-Monroe Chapter, National Sojourners and past Commander, Heroes of '76. He was a past president and director of Poquoson Ruritan Club, member of Poquoson Post #273, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He was an active member of the MacAdoo Topping Faith & Fellowship Class of Tabernacle UMC. He was an active volunteer at Langley AFB hospital since 2000. Frank fought for his country, served God and his community, loved his family, and treated everyone with kindness, compassion and respect. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Grace Jackson; brothers, Warren, Richard, and David and sister, Juanita Skipper. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Cameron Jackson; daughters Dr. Donna Poland and Lynn Eck; son; Frank M. Jackson, Jr. (Michelle); sisters, Ann Courson and Ruth Couch (John); grandchildren, Caitlin and Matthew Poland, Savannah Russo (Sal), Maren Eck, triplets Franklin, III, Mikayla, and Chloe Jackson; and his loving dog Aja-girl. A funeral service will be conducted, 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with the burial immediately following in Albert G . Horton Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk with full military honors. Masonic Rites will be given at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home with the family receiving friends afterward until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Poquoson Ruritan Scholarship Fund at Poquoson Ruritan Club, 115 Lee Avenue, Poquoson, Va 23662.
