NEWPORT NEWS - Fred Hunter Housman, 82, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014, in Salisbury, Maryland. Born in Lexington, Virginia, he was the son of the late Ambrose Ford Housman and Willie Evelyn Withrow Housman. Fred was a veteran of the United States Air Force
and retired from BASF. He was a life member of National Trappers Association and the Virginia Trappers Association. He was involved in the education program of the Virginia Trappers Association, an endowment member of the National Rifle Association, senior instructor for the Virginia Hunter Education program, an instructor for the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, and he was very involved in lobbying for Hunter Safety. He was also a member of the Virginia Wildlife Crime Line. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Penny Sondra Martin Housman; his daughter, Michelle Harrison and her husband, G.A., of Salisbury, his son Michael Housman and his wife, Nancy, of Aken, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Taylor Harrison, J. B. Harrison and Alex Harrison, all of Salisbury, Maryland, Heather Housman and her fiance, Kevin Clune, of Walnut Creek, California, Lindsey Reeves and her husband, Noah, and Lauren Housman, both of South Carolina; a sister, Shirley Fitzgerald of Waynesboro, Virginia; a niece, Beverly Kidd and her husband, Butch, of Waynesboro, Virginia; a great-niece, Lesley Holinger and her husband, Greg, and their family, of Waynesboro, Virginia; nephew, John Fitzgerald and his daughter, Angie; and great-nephew, Jeff and his wife, Jennifer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Hunter. A memorial service will be held at Peninsula Funeral Home on Saturday, May 3rd at 11AM.
