NEWPORT NEWS - Herman Jordan Tomlin, 85, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Piney River, VA and had made Newport News his home for the past 65 years. The U.S. Army
brought him to the Peninsula. He retired as a Master Electrician from the IBEW #1340 after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a true "jack of all trades" and enjoyed working around his home especially in his garden. He loved Nascar racing, bird hunting and fishing. He spent many hours listening to country music as well as playing several instruments himself. Mr. Tomlin was preceded in death by his parents, William and Christine Tomlin and 5 siblings. Mr. Tomlin is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patsy Nettles Tomlin; his daughters, Linda T. Griffith of Newport News and Alta T. Betley and her husband, David Slagle of Hopewell; his brother, Avan Tomlin and his wife, Teresa of Barhamsville, VA; six grandchildren, Douglas Krause, Tammy and Steven Griffith and his wife, Amber and Robert, Brandon and Cody Betley; and his nephew, Sanford Tomlin, Jr and his wife, Teresa. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 24, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm at Weymouth Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 11:00am by Pastor Bobby Collins at Peninsula Memorial Park with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
