Jacob Everett Keepes

GREENSBORO - Jacob Everett Keepes, 93, loving father, grandfather and friend to all, passed away peacefully Friday, November 15, 2013 in Greensboro, NC. Born in Illinois, he served in US Navy during WW2 and lived in Hampton, VA, working for C&O Railroad till retirement. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5480, devoting himself to volunteerism before moving to Greensboro NC. He remained an avid outdoors man all his life and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Jacob (also known as John or Johnny, later nick named Poppie) was a man of strong Catholic faith, whose values and congenial nature has been instilled in all his family. Jacob is preceded in death by his wife Annie, and 4 sisters. Surviving are his children Nonna Settlemeyer, Washburn ,TN, Lorraine Brown, Greensboro, NC, Marian Rupp, Newport News, VA, also William Ferguson, Poquoson, VA, Nellie Teagle, Seaford, VA, immediate three grandchildren: Ryan Brown, Cary NC, Angela Davis, Newport News VA, Kayla Rupp, Stavanger, Norway, also Christopher Ferguson, Poquoson, VA, Michael Ferguson, VA Beach, VA, as well as many beloved family members in Virginia, NC, Illinois and elsewhere. Visitation will be held at Forbis & Dick Funeral Service, 5926 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC. beginning with a Rosary prayer service at 5:45 pm visitation 6 - 8 pm on Tues., Nov. 19, 2013 A Funeral Mass will be held on Wed., Nov. 20, 2013 at 1:30 pm. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with Rev. Eric Kowalski celebrating. Jacob will be laid to rest at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Peninsula Memorial Park in Newport News, VA.
