James W. Hollomon

YORKTOWN - James W. Hollomon, age 90, of Yorktown, VA passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Velma Meiggs Hollomon; 1 son, JW Jr. and wife Frances of Yorktown, VA; 3 grandchildren, Becky, of Wilmington, NC, Debbie of Lahaina, HI, and Rick of Yorktown, VA. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Jr., sister, Louise, and parents, Mary and Richard Hollomon. A veteran of the US military, he first served in World War II with the Army Air Corps. His service continued in the Air Force with the Korean Conflict and beyond for almost 25 years around the world including tours in Viet Nam. Before retirement in 1972 he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After retiring, his service continued, working as an aircraft mechanic at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk, VA 15 years until 1987. He was a member of Sawyer's Creek Baptist Church, a 60 year Mason at the Widows Son Lodge # 75 AF & AM, both in Camden, NC, and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. For many years he has been an active participant at Bethel Manor Chapel, Langley, AFB, VA. A brief graveside service with full military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Pasquotank County, NC, on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at 10:00 am. Arrangements are by Twiford Funeral Home, Elizabeth City. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014, 11:00 am, at Bethel Manor Chapel. There will be a reception in the Chapel Annex following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to their favorite charity. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E.
