YORKTOWN - Juanita Prevatt Davis, 71, of Yorktown passed into God's hands early Tuesday, January 7, 2014, after a short illness. Juanita was born in Newport News on August 17, 1942. She graduated from Warwick High School and attended Longwood College. She worked civil service for the U. S. Army
for over 40 years. Through her hard work and perseverance, she rose through the supervisory ranks when few women did, retiring in 2004 from the Army Training Support Center, Ft. Eustis, as Chief of Fielded Devices Division. Juanita was a vivacious and adventurous woman, traveling the world and meeting many lifelong friends along the way. She impressed us all by earning her private pilot license through the Ft. Eustis Flying Club and joining the women's flying club, the Ninety-Nines. Before retirement, Juanita and Everett moved to Yorktown where they enjoyed their views of the ospreys, eagles, and other wildlife along with boating, entertaining, and cooking for family and friends. Juanita was active member of Lebanon Church of Christ and especially enjoyed playing the organ and orchestrating musical events for children and adults alike. Juanita was predeceased by her parents, James and Lottie Prevatt, and son, Michael Davis. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 48 years, Everett Davis of Yorktown; daughter, Sharon Breckons and husband, Walt, of Newport News; granddaughter, Carol Ann MacVaugh and husband, Jimmy, of Yorktown; grandson, Walt Breckons and wife, Dawn, of Newport News; great-granddaughters, Dani MacVaugh and Ana and Alivia Breckons; brother, Jack Prevatt and wife, Vickie, of Yorktown and their sons, James and wife, Nicole, David and wife, Anna, and Michael; a special great nephew, James (LJ), whom she loved with all her heart; aunt, Lucy St. Clair of Yorktown; and numerous beloved cousins who she had the privilege of sharing a lifetime of memories that started with a wonderful childhood in Lee Hall, including cousins, Sandra Cowley, Barbara Nicholson, Bobby and Donna West, and John and Lisa Cox; family friend, Dan Wallace and step son, Everett F Davis. Additionally, Juanita had a special circle of friends that will miss her dearly especially Maureen McCarthy, Eileen Robards, Janet Biege, Heath Parker, and Carolyn Ashton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Lebanon Church of Christ by the Rev. Dennis Worsham. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
