Lt. Col. Lloyd Earl Bell

WILLIAMSBURG - Lt. Col. Lloyd Earl Bell (USAF ret.), a long-time resident of Williamsburg, passed away April 21, 2013 after his last brave, but short battle. Born in Detroit nearly 86 years ago, he found his true love in San Antonio in 1949. He married Meta Vee McGahey that very year. He fathered four children: Lynn E. Bell (deceased); William "Bill" Bell; Christine Celeste Bell Shaw; Katherine Bell Riggs. He was very proud of all ten grand children and his favorite great grandchild. He was devoted to his family. Lloyd also was devoted to serving his country, first as a very young marine in World War II, and then enjoyed a long career as a fighter pilot in the USAF. Although he received many medals and commendations, he was most proud of his two Purple Hearts. Finally, he was devoted to his second career at Colonial Williamsburg, helping to make CW a beautiful place for visitors and residents. By request, funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express sympathies are encouraged to consider a contribution to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188 (www.williamsburghospice.org). Condolences to the family may be made at www.bucktroutfuneralhome.net.
