LTC Richard Edward Blanks Jr.

HAMPTON - LTC Richard Edward Blanks, Jr. (U.S. Army, ret.), 83, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Born in Elizabeth City County, he was a member of Central United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and a Life Member of the United Methodist Men. After graduating from Davidson College with a BS degree in pre-med, LTC Blanks entered the army, serving in the Korean War and in the Vietnam War until he was wounded. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 after 20 years military service. A member of the Peninsula Retired Men's Club, he was also a member of the Laff-A-Lot Rod and Gun Club. Survivors include his sister, Bettie Carlson and her husband Glenn of Spokane, WA; two brothers and their wives, Bill and Barbara Blanks of Hampton and Ed and Martha Blanks of Williamsburg; a special friend Jackie White and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Central United Methodist Church after which there will be a memorial service at 2:00 pm with Rev. Cheryl Harrison-Davidson officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
