GRAPELAND, TX - Kathy Woodruff, age 61, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2013 in Grapeland, Texas. She was born at Fort Bragg, NC on February 8, 1952 and was the first of four children. Kathy was a long time resident of Princeton, NC and had recently moved to Grapeland, TX. In 1984, Kathy obtained her Cosmetology License and later became the owner of the "Salon on Third" in Smithfield, NC. Kathy was a breast cancer
survivor in 1986, but ultimately she succumbed to lung and breast cancer after a long and determined battle. Preceded in death by her father, James Warren Woodruff and survived by her mother, Effie Williamson Woodruff, brother Garry Warren Woodruff of Candia, New Hampshire, brother James Frank Woodruff and wife Donna, of Grapeland, Texas and sister Eva Karen Van Pelt and husband Edwin E. "Van" of Cocolalla, Idaho. Also survived by nephews James Lester Van Pelt and wife Katie of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Tanner William Van Pelt and wife Kirsten of Sandpoint, Idaho, Jamieson Paul Woodruff and Jonathan Robert Woodruff and fiancé Jessica Puckett, both of Richmond, Virginia, and six great-nieces and great-nephews. A Celebration of Life Memorial service is planned for 1 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Parrish Funeral Home in Selma, NC. Pastor Jeff Windley will officiate. Following the memorial service, her remains will be interred at Selma Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Pavilion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a cancer research organization of the donor's choice.
