HAMPTON - Philip Morris Brooker, 85, died Friday, June 13, 2014, A native of Limestone, ME, he was the seventh of eight children born to Lorenzo Brooker and Lizzie Johndro Brooker and had been a Hampton resident since 1965. He retired as an Electrician from the VA Medical Center in 1978 and continued to volunteer his time at the VA Hospice until 1995 with over 2600 volunteer hours. Philip was very proud of the fact that he was an Army
veteran of WWII
as well as the Korean Conflict
. He served with distinction and was the recipient of the Silver Star, the Purple Heart
, and the Army of Occupation WWII medal as well as numerous other decorations. A member of First United Methodist Church of Fox Hill, he was active in the United Methodist Men. He was a member of the DAV, having served as past State Treasurer in Virginia and past State Commander in Maine. In his spare time, he enjoyed deer hunting. Survivors include his wife, Zane Brooker; his children, Dona Marie Bennett and her husband, Michael, Michael Brooker and his wife, Lisa, Patrick Brooker and his wife, Susan, Timothy Brooker, and Beth Brooker; a step-son, Nelson Reichard; a sister, Lauretta Callander and her husband, Charles; sixteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at First United Methodist Church Fox Hill by Rev. Tommy Markham. Inurnment will be in Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery in Stuart's Draft, VA. Memorials may be made to the DAV, Murray Rhea Peninsula Chapter 2, 913 Aberdeen Road, Hampton, VA 23666.
