Roger Cleveland Bandy Sr.

HAMPTON - On Saturday, August 16th, God, in his infinite wisdom, called home a faithful servant, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, Roger Cleveland Bandy, Sr. at the age of 68. Roger was born to the late Carlton and Mary Bandy. He was a 1963 Huntington High School graduate. He joined the U.S. Army in 1969 and served bravely in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Army Commendation Medal, Marksman M-14, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and 2 Purple Hearts. He retired as a longshoreman. He was preceded in death by his 2nd wife, Caroline S. Bandy; brother, Julius; and grandson, Jayden. He is survived by his fiancé and 1st wife, Carolyn M. Bandy; sons, Roger, Jr., Antonio (Darlene), and Melvin (Tina); step son, Brian Davis of Mexico; brothers, Richard (Edna) and John Earl of Newport News and Melvin (Alberta) of Hampton; sisters, Leola Lawrence (William) of Hampton and Daisy Hundley (Norman) of Newport News; a very special friend, Herbert Henry (Betty) of Texas; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held 11 am, Friday, August 22nd, at Ivy Baptist Church, Newport News. Viewing will be from 1-7 pm, Thursday, August 21st, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
