DALLAS, TEXAS - Ronald 'Ron' E. Springs was born on Nov. 4, 1956, in Williamsburg, Va., to Willie R. and Ethelyn C. Springs. He passed away on May 12, 2011, in Dallas, Texas.
Ron grew up in the Williamsburg area where he attended Lafayette High School. He became well-known in sports through playing football, basketball, baseball and running track. Until recently, Ron set and held the record for the most rushing yards in Lafayette High School's history. He played so well that Woody Hayes, Head Coach of Ohio State University
, personally recruited him for the Buckeye's. He played for Ohio State until he was drafted to the Dallas Cowboys in 1979 and later played for Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1985-1986.
Ron's character, skills and support for other athletes motivated them to do their best in whatever sport they played. This held true in his hometown and at Ohio State and with America's team.
He was a natural leader and comedian and well-loved by all that came in contact with him. He also has served as Master of Ceremony at Bruce Hornsby Concerts.
