Sally Gibbs Hatcher

YORKTOWN, VA. - Sally Gibbs Hatcher, 73, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014. Sally was a native of Chicago and former resident of Lincoln, IL before moving to Yorktown in February 2014. She has an impressive history of work: from 1961 to 1975, Sally worked in many skill sets for Chicago's Illinois Bell Telephone; from an Information Operator, a Dial Clerk, a Frame Attendant, to an Office Technician. From 1975 to 1980 she along with her husband Dennis opened and operated a small jewelry business titled "What's Hapnen Jewelry". In the latter part of 1980, after relocating to Jacksonville, Illinois, Sally accepted employment with Elm City Rehabilitation Center managing mentally disabled client services and dedicated seven years toward this effort. After the high school graduation of her daughter, Denise, relocation ensued and she attained employment with Diamond Star Mitsubishi Motors of which she later retired and in 1996 pursued certification in the field of International Personal Property Appraisal of fine arts, antiques, jewelry, and residential contents. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Dennis Hatcher; her parents John and Carrie Murray Gibbs; a sister Ida, and brothers Oscar and Floyd. She is survived by her daughter, Denise Hatcher of Yorktown, VA; a sister, Johnnie Jackson of Champaign, Illinois; and brothers, Ernie Williams of Springfield, Illinois, Clarence Gibbs of Dallas, Texas and Jimmy Gibbs of Tampa, Florida. A Celebration of Sally's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. The family will receive friends following the service.
